Space Operations Engineering: Opportunities

Monday,

March 1st 2021

- 11h30min -

WATCH HERE

Rodrigo Sequeira attended the aerospace engineering course due to his passion for aeronautics and space, having at the same time taken his private pilot license, officially gaining his wings shortly after his master's thesis. His passion for flying has never stopped growing and he already has several additional qualifications. In the engineering field, he took his initial steps in the OGMA trainee program, having taken a leap to Airbus in Hamburg and more recently to the German aerospace center (DLR), employed by LSE Space, where he started out as Spacecraft Controller and where he currently plays the role of Ground Operations Engineer in the Columbus project: the ESA module on board the International Space Station.

WATCH HERE

João is an Aerospace Engineer who finds aeronautics a fascinating area. During college and to complement a very theoretical training, his active nature led him to get involved in many extra activities. He founded the Air Cargo Challenge in his school and made this academic competition happen simply because he would love to participate and it did not yet exist in Portugal. After 3 years, the event gained European level and it was his turn to participate. Needless to say, he won. After college, he did an internship in Switzerland, where he worked on Solar Impulse, a solar plane to fly around the world. Curious to know more, João traveled to Brazil where he worked on the country's most advanced air military project - the Embraer KC-390. After the sky, only space was the limit. João was a project manager and division manager for a company that collaborates with the European Space Agency producing components for the robotic exploration of Mars. João believes that anything is possible and problem solving is just one of his many talents. Since 2020 he has dedicated 200% to the company he founded in 2018, and is currently developing products for the Aerospace and Wind markets. Some people dream of success, others get up every day to make it happen.

AWA is an aeronautical training school, established in 2008. Currently they have courses regarding Pilot (Airplane) and Flight Operations Officer. Those courses are approved by the Portuguese Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC), corresponding to the technical requirements for this purpose, as stated on the approval certificate PT.ATO.005.05 issued by ANAC. AWA works with their own funds, on facilities suitable for training, with an organic aircraft fleet operating from operations headquarters, placed in the Cascais Aerodrome. The courses are suitable due to the theoretical and practical subjects and match the job market requirements, always according to the training program approved by ANAC and considering the National and International legislation, highlighting the ones emanated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). AWA, in spite of the difficulties created by the external environment of pilot demand at an unprecedented level, which had an impact on the training of pilots in Portugal (as some ATO instructor pilots were integrated into Airlines), continues to guarantee quality training of its students within the EASA time frame. AWA continues to assume that the pilot student must have a set of characteristics that allow him to enter the profession, not just being the prerequisites for enrolling in the course.
